November 18, 2019 - 12:00 pm

Eva Kittay, PhD, Distinguished Professor of Philosophy, Emerita, Stony Brook University/SUNY

For 49 years we had no etiology of my daughter’s very significant cognitive and physical impairments. Then we got a genetic diagnosis…In this talk I will examine the responses this diagnosis evoked from us, whether there were any implications altering how we deal with my daughter’s disabilities, different ways genetic diagnoses impact families, and how we should understand a diagnosis of “de novo mutation/variation” for significant disabilities.
