Research with biospecimens has become increasingly important and controversial. This presentation will review contemporary ethical and regulatory issues in research with biospecimens with an emphasis on challenges to informed decision-making. Specific issues will include legislative changes governing research with residual newborn screening bloodspots and proposed changes to the human subjects regulations regarding biospecimens in the recent Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM).
