The Interrelationship Between Psychiatric Genetics and Psychiatric Nosology: Past, Present and Future

Kenneth Kendler, MD, Professor, Department of Psychiatry, Virginia Commonwealth University

Dr. Kendler will briefly explore the prior history of the extensive interactions between genetic findings and psychiatric nosology, then describe the current state of affairs with a focus on genetic-epidemiological and especially molecular genetic methods. He will conclude with some speculations about future developments in the two fields and the conceptual and philosophical issues likely to be involved.
